Here Goes....

so, here i am, starting a blog about our life. i'm hoping that this will be an easy way for our families back in the midwest to keep up-to-date on our goings-on in life. :)
a little bachground: me, my husband jordan, (who's more than i could ever have asked for) and my little baby girl elle have recently settled in ashland oregon. jordan (i should call him "doctor") is a new chiropractor and i am fortunate to be a full-time mama and help him build his practice at the same time. has made for incredibly busy days since the middle of december! but, we are finally seeing a few clients, so things are coming together wonderfully!
on top of all that, our vision is to become virtually food-independent. i've got my seed for the spring starting in our spare bedroom, and a few perennial plants started outside already. we've got quite a teeny lot, so it will be interesting to see where it all will fit! the great thing is, elle LOVES to be outside in the dirt; specifically, she loves to get as much as possible into her mouth! it makes for an enjoyable time in the garden :)
all for now, it'll be interesting to see where this blog takes us! heidi

Hi Heidi!
Yay for starting a blog! Miss Elle is SO cute in that picture. Isn't it nice when you have babies that love the outdoors as much as you? Good luck on your food endevours...we have the same goal.
Looks like we'll be seeing you in a few weeks on our way back through Oregon!

I can't wait to hear about your food-growing adventures :D We do what we can here too, but the climate is a little tougher to deal with as you know! I'll be starting me seeds in another month, and hopefully it warms up by June!

Don't give up hope, Heidi! Even if some of your projects fail, you STILL got to get dirt under your fingernails, and that makes any day a better day. Perhaps your first year or two (or 29 as in our case) buy your plants from a local greenhouse and support them in their industry. The grow light advice above is good advice...We just transplanted some of our tomato seedlings today...maybe we can carry some in our bags when we come out for Elle's birthday!
